Julian was a sweet guy. I didn't know him very well, just had a couple of classes with him and talked to him a couple of times, but he was so positive. Every time I saw him, he had a smile on his face. You don't realize how real this war on terror is until someone you know dies...it's real now. His family should be proud, he died serving his country, helping others. God bless the Woods family.

I am a civilian Registered Nurse at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. I knew Julian very well, and had the pleasure of working with him while he was attached to 4F. I must say that he was a very polite, respectful, and hard-working young man. He showed much compassion for his patients. He had a light about him that would make you smile whenever you were around him. I truly enjoyed working with him and was very shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.
I, too, am from Jacksonville, and one of my favorite memories of Julian is whenever he would get ready to go home on leave, he'd jokingly tell me to come along with him. I attended Forrest Sr. High School, and another fond memory of Julian was how we would jokingly argue about which of our high schools was better. You know.....had to keep the Ed White/Forrest rivalry thing going...(smile).
My heart goes out to the Woods family. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Julian will always be remembered for all of the good things that he did during his life. You can be very proud of his accomplishments. I know I am proud to have worked beside him.....a true hero.

To Julian's mom.
If you could see me now,
I'm walking streets of gold.
If you could see me now,
I'm standing tall and whole.
If you could see me now,
You would know the pain is erased, you wouldn't want me to ever leave this perfect place.
Momma....if you only could see me now.
Mrs Wood, we met at the cementery today, you were so nice to give me a vase of flowers, which to me it was a privilege to take one. As mothers we can not know why things happens, but we can know that love and beautiful memories outlast the pain of grief. And we can know that there is a place inside the heart where love lives always and where nothing so beautiful can ever be forgotten. Those we cherish will always live on in memory.
Rest in peace Julian, and thank you for your ultimate sacrifice.

I would like to share a poem that was given to my family when I lost my Grandmother. I thank God that Julian and others like him fought for our country.
I see the countless Christmas
trees around the world below.
With tiny lights, like heaven's stars
reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular,
Please wipe away that tear
For I'm spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year.
I hear many Christmas songs
That people hold so dear.
But the sounds of music can't compare
with the Christmas choir up here.
For I have no words to tell you
The joy their voices bring
For it is beyond description
To hear as angels sing.
I know how much you miss me,
I see the pain inside your heart
For I'm spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year.
I can't tell you of the splendor
Or the peace here in this place
Can you just imagine Christmas
With our Savior, face to face?
I'll ask Him to light your spirit
As I tell Him of your love.
So then pray one for another
As you lift your eyes above.
So please let your hearts be joyful
and let your spirit sing
For I'm spending Christmas in heaven
and I'm walking with the King.
God Bless You and your family.

I am extremely saddened at the loss of a fellow shipmate. I am a retired Navy Senior Chief and served in the VietNam conflict. I also lost my father at age 3 months in the Korean War.
I know your grief and loss are enormous right now. I am also an ordained minister. John 15:13 - Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Your son, husband, and father is with the heavenly father, and as all things pass away, the time comes that we all will gather with Jesus in the air and be reunited, not for a season, but eternity, with our loved ones gone before us.
My prayers are with the Woods family and the nation is indebted to patriots of peace and valor such as Corpsman Julian A. Woods. May he rest in peace, and this holiday season, there is yet another reason to celebrate, and that is, that Julian even upon Julian's death, he has eternal life to travel the known and unknown universe at the speed of thought. He hears your voice as we are all made in the likeness of our father, Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen and God Bless you.

Your son was just as much a Marine, as he was a sailor, and rest assure that his valiant service will never be in vain, or forgotten. May the following words comfort you in your grief:
Marine is my name
Young men and women, all walks of life
Stood tall in those footprints in the night.
Cut short their childhoods, for a dream:
To earn the title: U.S. Marine !
Many have questioned, "Why do we serve"?
No riches befall those men of nerve.
To them we say, "no wealth or fame"
Could ever replace our honored name.
A title that's feared throughout the world,
Every clime and place our flag unfurled.
With tenacious spirit, and ferocious will,
No beach was too tough; too steep were no hills.
Not winter's freeze, nor sweltering heat
Could support the enemy in their defeat !
The texts of history and stories tell
of Marines who fought like the dogs of Hell !
It's strength within our historic past,
Knowledge of courage and honored passed,
A legacy authored by those before
Who fought and died to preserve our shores.
A forfeit treasured by today's Marines;
Their sacrifice financed your American dream.
So spend your riches and enjoy thy fame,
My wealth is in Honor.....Marine is my name !!

To the Woods family: I too, like some of the others was a classmate of Julian. When I heard of the tragic news I immediately thought of all the good times Julian and I had. I remember constantly asking to hold his calculator in a class we had together. He got tired of me asking to borrow it so he let me have it. I know it seems small and insignificant but I still have that calculator. When I heard of my beloved classmate passing and doing so in such an honorable manner I could only think of how sad it is to live in the world with one less soul as kind and as generous as his. I sincerely pray that the lord will touch your family. God Bless.

To the Woods family:
I went to school with Julian at Ed White. I knew by the way people would talk about him, just how special he was. I was on the cheerleading team and got to cheer for him during most of the games. Most of our banners had his name on it or stars to wear that showed just how supportive we all were. I had no idea that Julian went into the service considering most of us have moved or went into seperate directions. I have been a military girlfriend (soon to be wife) for only a short while and I know how hard it is to have someone leave and wander if your ever going to see them again. My prayers are with you and your loved ones. When our loved ones go over to Iraq and try to make a difference it's very difficult to deal with at first. Your constantly asking them why? But they know why...they want to make a difference in this world we live in today. Julian did just that. He will always be a "hero" now and forever in all our hearts.

To the Woods Family - My neighbors(previously)
As I logged into the guest book, I begin to read the other entries...what can I say that hasn't been said everyone seems to think of Julian as a RESPECTFUL young man that he was, as a LOVING PERSON that he was, as a THOUGHTFUL PERSON that he was, as a TEAM PLAYER that he was and as a HERO that he is.
Oh how good and pleasent for brethern to join together at a time like this.
I remember the times working in my yard Julian would always come over and hold a conversation with me, we talked about many things Julian always told me that he would visit me at church after learning that we have a Church Basketball League, well needless to say Julian never made it on our earthly team, but thank God he will meet us on the other team called HEAVEN as a point guard.
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, there's a time and purpose for everything, we may not understand but God has a plan...what's the plan...to remind you & I that tomorrow is not promise even though some of us still consider ourselves young and have plenty of time, but look at Julian 22, some would say to young to die, remember the 9/11 tragedy who would have thought that many lives would have ended that way. I'm sure they had planned to do many things such as Julian, you and I, but some would not have the opportunity as we do today make the right decision as Julian, myself and others has made walk with Jesus confess that he is Lord and invite him into your heart.
Mr. Julian - Met you years ago at JSO never thought in a million years that you would be my neighbor and that you would bring to me a friend, your wife, Carolyn and three kids that I could watch grow into mature adults. My prayers are with you.
Carolyn - seeing you on last Monday, strenghten my heart to see how God can give you a strength that's not your own, be encouraged and know that God will supply ALL of your needs according to his riches in glory. I Love You
Alexis - A beautiful and delightful young lady, I know that you have had your share of trials, remember the walks we had (talking) one thing I told you is that whatever you go through God will see you through. Be strong, for Julian was your partner hold on to the good times and you will be alright, Love ya much.
OJ - Big Bro, I know that it's hard to lose someone you watch come into this world as a sibling to have held him in your arms, to have played, and now that has come to an end, but thank God for the memories you share. Love Ya

"The LORD gives STRENGTH to HIS people and the LORD blesses HIS people with PEACE." psalm 29:11
To the Woods Family: I went to school With Julian and when I heard the news on the radio I only caught half of it. Then when I got to work I sat down and read the paper and I just briefly glanced at the paper. Later on that day I actually looked and said that face looks familiar which caused me to read the article, needless to say I was very shocked and upset to learn about my classmate. I had no idea that Julian went into the service and to do that does take a good deal of strength and courage which he definitely had. My prayers are with you in your time of mourning.

It truly saddens my heart of the death of your son. I truly appreciate and accept the fact that he paid the ultimate sacrifice. When I read his name in the Baltimore Sun newspaper, I was compelled to sign the guest book. Being from Jacksonville originally and prior military (U.S. Air Force)and with one son in the military, I feel a certain connection. We, in the Baltimore area, lost four "sons" this week alone. We certainly know your pain and heartache. I will include your family in my prayers. God will see you through this.

Mrs. Woods, O.J., and Alexus, I was totally and completely devastated when I learned of Julian's sudden death in Iraq. He was, as you two were as well, a wonderful and delightful student to have in class at Stilwell Middle School. I have cried endless tears for you and for Julian. Scripture says to "pray without ceasing" and that is exactly what I am doing. I am lifting your family, who I love dearly from our years of friendship, and Julian to the very throne of God with prayer. My deepest condolences go out to you at this most difficult of times. In His Love and Strength, Sue Magish
